What batters usually work on

Stance and balance

A relaxed, balanced stance with your weight even sets you up to move either way.

Head position

A still head, with eyes level and watching the ball, is the foundation of good batting.

Backlift and bat path

A straight backlift and a bat that comes down in a straight line give you the best chance of meeting the ball with the full face.

Footwork and follow-through

Getting your front foot to the pitch of the ball, and finishing balanced, are two of the most common coaching points.

How to film your batting

  • Film from side-on, level with the batter, to check stance, bat path and follow-through.
  • Film from behind the bowler's arm to check head position and alignment.
  • Keep the whole body and bat in frame from the stance to the end of the shot.
  • A few balls in the nets, 10–15 seconds in total, is enough.
